After 7 years at the helm of Lindenwood, Head Coach Troy Hood has stepped down, citing personal reasons as the grounds for leaving.

“I made a promise to my team that they’d have a full-time Head Coach in 2010-2011,” said Hood.  “For reasons I won’t go into, it can’t be me. Therefore, to keep my promise, I stepped down.”

Hood led the Lions to an impressive 103 wins and 43 losses. The Lions dominated the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference, only losing 5 conference games in regular season contests. The Lions also won 5 GRLC Tournament titles under Hood.

When asked what his favorite coaching memory was, Hood replied, “I have so many fond memories; it would be hard to pick one. Every time I’d cross the substitution box and shake hands before a game with coaches like Flip Naumberg, Jason Lamb, John Paul, Tony Scazzero, Doug Carl, Dwayne Hicks, or Rob Graff, I knew I’d be in for a true test. Those are very good memories in a personal sense. I love the competition, and especially as was the case with those games, being the underdog. If I had to pick one moment that sticks out in my mind, it would be the 2007 GRLC Championship. Our defense was playing was playing well that day. Illinois had the bulk of possession time, but we were still able to keep it close. We were down one goal with :17 left. I called time out and drew up a play from memory. Jimmy Lange had an open shot and tied the game. In overtime, we had the longest possession of the season. Dan Wyatt finally scored the game winner to send us to Frisco, TX.”

Coach Hood also stated that he will focus on his family first and career second but noted that he’ll help where he can when it comes to lacrosse.

“I have a great many hours of being away on road games to pay back to my wife and daughter,” said Hood.

When asked who the next coach of Lindenwood would be, Coach Hood simply stated, “I can tell you that the Lions are in good hands.”
