15 Page Paper Writing – How NOT to Waste Time?

In the isolated country of Bhutan, monks have learned to sit quietly for hours upon hours, concentrating on spiritual things. This kind of focused meditation is difficult and admirable – in fact, it’s absolutely mystifying. The fact that mankind is capable of such intense spiritual focus in mind-boggling. However, the rest of us haven’t exactly been trained like Bhutan’s monks. Sitting for seven hours in meditation is not our idea of a pleasurable use of time. For most people, concentrating on anything longer than ten minutes is difficult. Lightning-fast technology, a speedy business world and increasing diagnoses of ADHD and other attention disorders have led to a large population of people unable to maintain focus for long periods of time. How does this affect your schoolwork? By making 15 page papers unmanageable. How do you stay on task during these assignments, when it’s so easy to waste time?

Keeping Yourself On Task

Even students with the attention span of a field mouse can appreciate some of the tricks and tips outlined in this section. We understand that focusing is hard, and when it comes to your academics, you can’t afford to waste time. There are many ways, however, that you can make optimum use of your time. Below are some of the most popular ways students stay focused while writing a 15 page paper.

  • Use a checklist. Many individuals find that it’s easier to complete a paper when you conceptualize it as several steps. When they finish their introduction, they check if on the checklist. When they finish their first major point, they check that off too. This provides a sense of accomplishment and progress that keeps their motivation and attention high.
  • Take small break. Trying to write a 15 page paper from start to finish will destroy you. It’s important that, in the course of your writing, you take small breaks – maybe ten minutes. These breaks are not a waste of time. They are actually chances for your brain to reboot and tackle your paper with more vitality and enthusiasm.
  • Eliminate distractions. Television, music, cell phone, siblings, video games – anything that threatens to pull you away from that essay should be thrown out of the room. While not always completely manageable (three year-old brothers don’t understand ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs), working to eliminate your distractions will keep you from time wasting on unimportant projects.
  • Schedule good writing times. If you write better in the morning, then write in the morning; if you do better at night, write before you go to sleep. By scheduling your writing time in increments that benefit the way you function and compose, you’ll eliminate impractical paper-writing times that don’t tend to produce much writing.
