ANN ARBOR, MI (March 13, 2010) No. 13 Simon Fraser (1-3, 0-0 PNCLL) travelled to Ann Arbor, Michigan on Friday, March 12, losing 22-10 to the two-time defending MCLA National Champions, University of Michigan Wolverines (4-0, 0-0 CCLA). Despite a much improved effort, the Clan once again got down early and were unable to contain a potent Michigan offense who went on a 7-0 run the start the game. Attackmen Adam Foss (Cochrane, AB / Cochrane High School) with 1 goal, 4 assists and Chris Tessarolo (New Westminster, BC / New Westminster Secondary) with 4 goals, 1 assist led Fraser on offense with 5 points each, while sophomore midfield Rick Bezuidenhout (Campbell River, BC / Timberline Secondary) added 2 goals in the loss.
Michigan attackman Clark McIntyre (Little Silver, NJ / Rumson – Fair Haven) opened the scoring 22 seconds into the contest after a successful back cut left him wide open in front of the Clan cage. The Wolverines would add three more over a six minute span before UM junior Trevor Yealy (Pittsburgh, PA / Upper St. Clair) scored his first of the game at the 6:22 mark of the first quarter. Yealy would score his second of the game less than a minute later on the man-up and then complete the natural hat trick on the man-down to give Michigan the 7-0 advantage. Undeterred by the early deficit, Fraser continued to battle hard at both ends of the field with junior defender Luke Genereux (Port Coquitlam, BC / Terry Fox Secondary) finally getting SFU on the board by batting in a loose ball in front of the Wolverine net. Clan senior Ben Towner (Port Coquitlam, BC / Terry Fox Secondary) scored on the man-up to cut the Michigan lead to five before Foss scored with three seconds remaining to end the first quarter at a score of 7-3.
With SFU beginning to gain momentum, Michigan would again go on a run to start the second quarter. Senior midfield David Reinhard (East Lansing, MI (East Lansing) converted an opening face-off win to re-extend the Wolverine lead to four, leading to goals by Yealy and seniors Jamison Goldberg (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. (Yorktown) and Josh Ein (Potomac, MD / Bullis) to make the score to 11-3. Refusing to give up, Fraser would put together another three-goal run to close the UM lead back to five on goals by Bezuidenhout, Tessarolo and freshmen Colton Dow (Coquitlam, BC / Heritage Woods Secondary) before Michigan quickly answered back with a three-goal run of their own to end the half with a convincing score of 14-6.
Both teams came out hard to start the third frame with Tessarolo converting a feed from Foss, only 27 seconds into the quarter to start the second-half scoring. Michigan added two more before Bezuidenhout scored his second of the game to make the score 16-8. Unfortunately for the Clan, that would be as close as they would get as six more unanswered goals by the Wolverines pushed the UM lead into double digits before Tessarolo and Foss closed out the scoring for a 22-10 final.

- Senior Mike Ripley (Saskatoon, SK / E.D. Feehan High School) started in net for the Clan playing 28:20 and making 11 saves with 14 goals against. Junior Dean Stewart (Duncan, BC / Claremont Secondary) came into the game at the 1:40 mark of the second quarter, playing 31:40 and making 12 saves with 10 goals against.
- LSM Luke Genereux scored the first goal of his collegiate career when he opened the Clan scoring at the 3:00 minute mark of the first quarter.
- SFU registered 44 ground balls. Freshman midfielder Frank Davalos (Moose Jaw, SK / Albert E. Peacock Collegiate) led the Clan with 7 ground balls, while seniors Foss and Russel Thomas (Nanoose Bay, BC / Ballenas Secondary) each added 5.
