MCLA Vegas Full House Face-off Gets Underway This Weekend
For Immediate Release
SALT LAKE CITY (Feb. 17, 2010) – The inaugural MCLA Vegas “Full House Face-off” tournament will get under way this weekend at the Viper Lacrosse Fields at the Thunderbird Family Sports Complex in North Las Vegas.
The tournament will feature five Division II top 25 teams squaring off to bring home hardware early in the season. For three teams – Westminster, Western Oregon and Utah Valley – this weekend will mark the first games of the 2010 season.
“So many top DII teams lined up for this weekend from several conferences,” said Northern Arizona head coach Ryan Hanavan. “We’re hoping to get things going and there is no better test than to start out against some great teams.”
The tournament will start on Friday with No. 12 Western Oregon facing off against Biola (1-1).
“Playing a good out of conference team always helps to set the tone for the season,” said Western Oregon head oach David Homma. “We had a great game a few years ago at Biola and their team was a great group so having them in the first round works for us.”
The winner of Game One will go on to face the winner of the host team, No. 9 Westminster, versus No. 17 UC-Santa Cruz (1-0 WCLL, 1-1).
“I like our first round opponent UCSC,” said Westminster head coach Mason Goodhand. “They have a lot of spirit and are a fun group to compete against.”
Game Three will pit Western Washington (1-1) versus No. 22 Utah Valley University. The winner will then take on the winner of Game Four, which will feature No. 14 Cal State Fullerton (1-0 SLC, 1-1) versus Northern Arizona (0-1).
The semi-finals will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. The winners will get a break before squaring off in the championship game at 4:15 p.m.
This event is co-hosted by Las Vegas High School Lacrosse and will benefit the Las Vegas Lacrosse Association scholarship fund in 2010.
