Davenport Announces 2010 Schedule
For Immediate Release—Davenport University Lacrosse
Dec. 22, 2009
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Head coach Bob Clarkson has announced the Davenport University men’s lacrosse team schedule for 2010. The Panthers play 13 regular season games, including seven at home plus an additional five scrimmage games.
Davenport will again have a challenging schedule as six of the Panthers’ 2010 opponents finished last season ranked in the College Lax Weekly Poll.
Davenport opens the season with a pair of scrimmages versus NCAA D-III Adrian and Carthage College. The regular season opens with the Panthers heading to Atlanta to play a trio of top SELC teams: SCAD, Emory and Kennesaw State University. DU defeated Emory in last season’s MCLA D-II Quarterfinals.
The season doesn’t get any easier as the Panthers start March with games against Hope College, Dayton and powerhouse St. John’s University.
“These first six regular season games will set the tone for the whole season,” stated Clarkson. “There is a good chance that all six will be ranked teams by the end of the season poll.”
The remainder of March has the Panthers playing MCLA Division I Pitt, NCAA D-III Alfred, Saginaw Valley State and CCLA Central Division winner Oakland. The final month of the regular season ends with Davenport playing Calvin College, newcomer Indiana Tech, Grand Valley, Northern Michigan, Ferris State and ending with another newcomer, Walsh University.
“The schedule is reflective of Davenport’s goal to be a national contender. Playing the best teams is the way to get to that level,” added Clarkson.
