Hope College attackman Eric Weber has been selected as the latest CollegeLAX Player of the Week after racking up 15 points in the 3-1 Flying Dutchmen’s wins over the University of Michigan–Dearborn and Aquinas College. Weber, a sophomore from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan is currently leading MCLA Division 2 in averaging over 8 points a game this season.

Averaging over 6 goals a game, Weber leads a Dutchmen offense that has yet to be held to single digits in their 2009 campaign. With 49 total points, Weber has scored or assisted over half of Hope’s goals this season, making him a large part of the team’s contention for their first playoff appearance in the club’s history.

Against conference opponent Aquinas Weber was able to beat the Saints’ defense for eight goals and one assist. He also lead the Dutchmen attack in ground balls with 14 pick-ups in the match.

Facing Michigan–Dearborn, the Dutchmen were held to their lowest scoring output of the season but managed to hold their hosts to five goals for an 11-5 win. Weber continued his streak of strong stat-sheet showings with 5 goals, an assist and 9 ground balls in the game.

The Dutchmen’s recent wins have put the team in charge of their own destiny in their quest to reach the CCLA Tournament this May. Hope’s April 14th matchup with division rival Calvin College could hold the key to their qualifying for the tournament for the first time since the team’s joining the conference in 2005. The two teams met earlier this season, with Hope pulling out a 14-6 victory behind 8 goals and 2 assists from Weber.

For his selection as a CollegeLAX Player of the Week, Eric will receive a prize pack from CollegeLAX. Be sure to check back next week to see who wins the next CollegeLAX Player of the Week Award and contact CollegeLAX to nominate a deserving MCLA player for next week’s honors.
