Junior David Reinhard from the University of Michigan has been named the next CollegeLAX Player of the Week. The FOGO specialist went 14 of 19 on faceoffs and recorded one assist in last Friday’s 13-4 victory over No. 12 Colorado.
Reinhard has filled in very nicely for former first team MCLA All-America Brekan Kohlitz, who graduated from Michigan last spring and moved on to the MLL’s Washington Bayhawks. Reinhard, a psychology major from East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing High School), was the main faceoff midfielder for the 2008 USA West team that played in Japan this past summer.
Reinhard also went 11 of 12 on faceoffs in just one half of action as No. 1 Michigan beat Minnesota 17-4 on Sunday afternoon in Ann Arbor.
“Rhino is incredibly dedicated to being the best he can be,” said Michigan Coach John Paul. “Going up against Brekan (Kohlitz) and our other faceoff specialists every day in practice has definitely helped him develop, but he also puts in a lot of time away from Oosterbaan on his hand speed and technique and in the weight room. We have always depended heavily on faceoff success so we were counting on Rhino stepping up and taking over this year, and so far he’s been up to the challenge.”
Reinhard has an impressive .719 faceoff percentage for the season so far. He’s also leading the team with 54 ground balls and is on pace to shatter team records in that category.
Top ranked Michigan returns to action on Friday night when the Wolverines host Eastern Michigan in CCLA action.
For his selection as a CollegeLAX Player of the Week, David will receive a prize pack from CollegeLAX. Be sure to check back next week to see who wins the next CollegeLAX Player of the Week Award and contact CollegeLAX to nominate a deserving MCLA player for next week’s honors.
