The University of Utah and Westminster Griffins battled in a scrimmage on Monday in the Spence Eccles Field House on the University of Utah campus.

Westminster scored first on a goal by sophomore attackmen Josh Condas but that was the only time the Griffins found the net.

The Utah defense managed to hold the Griffins scoreless for the rest of the scrimmage.

“I was pleased with the defensive effort,” said Utah head coach Craig Morris, “anytime you keep any team out there to one goal in a ball game, your defense has done some good things.”

Utah scored 10 goals and were led by freshman midfielder Mack Schwoebel who netted 3 goals.

Westminster struggled to find a good flow for the game and were simply outplayed by Utah.

“We have identified a lot of things we need to work on,” said Westminster associate head coach Dave Long who was coaching in the absence of head coach Mason Goodhand. “It is good that we get to do that here in stead of in the regular season.”

The No. 22 Utah Utes will face No. 5 Simon Fraser on Saturday at the Spence Eccles Field House.

The No. 1 Westminster Griffins will play Western State College in an early Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Western Division showdown at Westminster College.
