Inside the SLC: North Roundup

BuffaloBy Buffalowill

Hello folks…no sugar coated, biased, spellchecked, grammatically correct blog here.  Just pure stream of consciousness musings from SLC land.  Bear with me as some of this stuff is not exactly new, but its going to get us…you and me…up to speed.

I had a few good topics to hit on, but now once I get to the blank screen they seem dated and tiresome…hmmm.  Shall I bore you with thoughts on SLC vs WCLL, 12 units vs nothing at all, buffalo vs bison? Nope.

Quick Links from the North Division:

  • The Greater Los Angeles’ oldest college club  is getting older!  The Claremont site used to boast a 1958 date…now we’re looking at 1956.  Maybe this will be cleared up at the Alumni Game this weekend.  Be sure to check out some amazingly sweet photos on their history page.
Chapman ventures up the 405 to take on UCLA.  I’m sure those seniors remember their freshman year.  With a high probability of rain, will UCLA facilities close the fields again???  Interesting that this is the second year in a row that they play in Westwood.  I expect big things from Chapman again…and I may be at the basketball game.
  • Brendan Sindell isn’t taking USC lightly and talks about some of the changes in the Gauchos’ line-up.  While the Trojans nearly had the upset of the year in the WCLL last season, I don’t see them running with UCSB this year.
  • UCLA falls to 5-6 vs Cal Poly SLO since 1992 (last year of reliable stats in my book) in what I thought would be the first “good” match up of the year out west…it wasn’t even close.  It is nice that this early season rivalry is back after a 3 year hiatus.  Cal Poly’s got some nice players, but they are not on the same level as ASU and Chapman.  The Bruins also added this guy as their new offensive coordinator.
  • USC has a slick new site up in action with some great features including Twitter.  Coach Aktary also has a few things to say about his three captains.  The Trojans have a tough weekend at UCSB Saturday and hosting WCLL sleeper Santa Clara on Sunday.
  • Lions, Lions…..what will I do with you this year?  Big win over arguably the best MCLA DII team in SLC/WCLL land.  I thought they might struggle at least for a little against Biola….but no.  Nice looking gloves too.  Biggest inter-divisional game of the year (so far!) is when when SDSU comes up to Westchester.  The Aztecs will be looking to avenge their one-goal loss last year.  Believe me when I say this game will have at-large implications come later in the season.

South Division links coming up in my next report...

Join Buffalowill as he covers the crazy world of the SLC. He is a fan of the 7 diamond mesh and despises bison. He has been coaching youth lacrosse for several years and expects to win 1-2 games this year.
