Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that the New Jersey Pride and the defending MLL Champion Philadelphia Barrage will play their final regular season game this summer at Hillsboro Stadium in Hillsboro, Oregon on Saturday, August 9th at 7:30 PM, as the grand finale event of MLL PDX.
MLL PDX, which kicks-off on Tuesday, August 5th, is a week-long event which will give lacrosse enthusiasts the opportunity to sharpen their own lacrosse skills with a series of clinics and tournaments taking place at various locations throughout the greater Portland area in the days leading up to the game between the Pride and the Barrage.
“We’re delighted to be bringing Major League Lacrosse back to the Pacific Northwest as part of MLL PDX,” says David Gross, Commissioner of Major League Lacrosse. “Back in 2004 when the MLL Wild West Tour stopped in Seattle, I remember that there was quite a contingent from the Portland area that traveled up for the game. It’s always been an area of interest for us and we’ve had a long standing relationship with both Brian Silcott and Portland Lacrosse LLC. We have faith that they will put on a first-rate event for the fans in region.”
“For me this is coming full circle,” explains Brian Silcott, Executive Vice President of Portland Lacrosse LLC and Owner of Rhino Lacrosse. “I played in the MLL for the first 5 years it existed. I then coached San Francisco when the MLL expanded to the west and now I get to bring the game to my new home in Portland as the director of the biggest lacrosse event in Oregon history. This is important to me and I am committed to making MLL PDX a success.”
The MLL PDX Lacrosse Clinics will be a series of three full-day clinics that will feature players from both the Philadelphia Barrage and the New Jersey Pride. The MLL PDX Northwest Challenge begins on Thursday, August 7th and features both a Middle School and High School Tournament.
“I was very excited when I heard that the MLL is playing a game at Hillsboro Stadium this August,” added Curt Sheinin, Head Lacrosse Coach at Lakeridge High School, which won back-to-back Oregon State Championships in 2006 and 2007. “It is a tremendous opportunity for the Oregon and Washington lacrosse community to see some of the best players in the world participating in an outdoor game, which is the same version of lacrosse that is played at the youth, high school and college level in our area. Certainly the decision to hold the game here validates the growth of lacrosse in Oregon and is another positive step in promoting this great sport.”
The finals for each tournament will be held on Saturday, August 9th at Hillsboro Stadium prior to the New Jersey-Philadelphia Game. In addition, the day-long grand finale of MLL PDX will include food, lacrosse vendors, live music, contests, clinics, and more.
