This week Shaun McGahan, a junior for the SELC Champion University of Georgia Bulldogs, was named the Offensive MVP for the SELC tournament and an Honorable Mention SELC Attackman. He can now add one more accolade: CollegeLAX MCLA Player of the Week.
Winning their second consecutive conference championship, the Bulldogs defeated Florida State 13-9 in the semifinals and edged Virginia Tech 17-16 to bring home the trophy.
McGahan was strong for the Bulldogs against FSU, scoring two goals and playing with a high level of intensity that, according to UGA head coach Jason Slider, he always has on the field. 
In the middle of the semifinal match-up, McGahan “hit an FSU player on a ride, cut his eye open, came off the field and was back ready to play in a few minutes,” Slider said.
The cut would require seven stitches after the game, one for each goal he would score the next day against Virginia Tech.
McGahan transferred to UGA from Washington College, an NCAA Division III school, “to get a more rounded college experience while still being able to play lacrosse at a high level,” Slider said.
“His prior college experience brought a joy to the game for him where he was able to play lacrosse again and really enjoy the game,” Slider continued.
McGahan finished the regular season tied for fourth in the SELC in total offense with 31 goals and 20 assists.
“The goals and assists that Shaun puts on the scoreboard are just a fraction of what he brings to our team,” Slider said. “He does all the intangible things that make him a great, well rounded player that is a leader on the field. His play on the field last weekend helped to set the tone for our team to win the SELC championship. So although it was the points that he scored in those games that got him the offensive most valuable player of the tournament, it is that in combination with all his other attributes that make him a great player.”
