Seniors Andrew Vincent, Paul Swanson, and Josh Schane have been named as captains for the 2008 Oregon Ducks lacrosse team, according to Head Coach Ben Tiller. The three were picked by the Oregon players and coaching staff following the fall lacrosse season.

Swanson, a returning starter at goalie, and Vincent, who is entering his third year as a starter, were prep teammates at lacrosse powerhouse Mercer Island High. Both players transferred to Oregon after going to other schools for their first year of college. Swanson took over the crease last season and he and Vincent received 1st Team All Conference honors. The duo also had the opportunity to play in Europe this summer for Team USA West, during which time Swanson received the Best Goalie Award at the 2007 Prague Cup.

Schane, a product of Lake Oswego High in Oregon, is among just five seniors who have been with the Ducks for all four years of their college careers. With plenty of big-game experience and last season’s PNCLL Tournament MVP award under his belt, Schane enters the season ready to lead another explosive Oregon offense.

“We expect our captains to be leaders on and off the field and these three men are up to the task,” said Tiller. “Achieving our goals will require a complete team effort…Paul, Vinnie, and Josh will set the tempo.”

The 42-man roster includes 25 returnees. Tiller cited seniors Jeff Brunelle and Ben Kopca, juniors Jon Matusiefsky and Will DeSiervo, and sophomore Justin Blackmore as players he expects to step up and play leading roles. “It is crucial that these players, and many others, pick-up where last year’s playmakers left off. With a number of new players on our roster, it will clearly be up to the captains and returning players to lead this Duck squad back to the top,” Tiller added.

Along with Tiller, the Oregon coaching staff will include Erik Hewitt, Atha Mansoory, and Andrew Clough.
